About the Festival

Founded in 2006 by Tekla Cunningham, the Whidbey Island Music Festival is a beloved annual event that presents great performances of baroque and classical chamber music in relaxed and intimate indoor and outdoor venues on beautiful Whidbey Island, with repertoire from Monteverdi to Florence Price. We bring music of the past four centuries to life with vivid and moving concert performances on period instruments. Our Fall concerts will be announced soon!

Recitals and Q & A sessions on the range of historical keyboards: lautenwerk, clavichord, harpsichord, fortepiano and organ. Performers include David Buice, Henry Lebedinsky, Byron Schenkman and Tamara Friedman.

    The Whidbey Camano Tourism board maintains a comprehensive listing of restaurants, hotels and events on Whidbey Island.

    The seaside village of Langley has wonderful shops, cafes, restaurants, galleries.

    Bayview has many attractions, from a great farmer’s market, Bayview Farm and Garden nursery, Flower House cafe, Bayview Taproom, Orchard Kitchen restaurant, Whidbey Donuts and more.

    Freeland has some new eateries such as Penn Cove Brewery’s new taproom in a renovated barn with a food truck from The Braeburn at the Barnyard.

    Greenbank is home to Greenbank Farm, and Greenbank Pantry and Deli has a wonderful selection of sandwiches and beverages for a picnic.

    The historic town of Coupeville has many activities, from the Wharf, kayaking on Penn Cove, shops, Bayleaf for wine, cheese and picnic provisions, Poppy and Pomegranate for coffee and flowers, Penn Cove Brewery, restaurants including the Oystercatcher and Little Red Hen Bakery, The Cove, Toby’s Tavern for legendary mussels, Ciao pizza, Lavender Wind Farm, farmers’ market, Island County historical society and more!

    Whidbey Island Vintners has info on the Wine and Spirits trails and tasting rooms, and the Whidbey Island Art Trail and Whidbey Working Artists have information about open studios.

  • The Washington State Ferry system connects Whidbey to the mainland via the Mukilteo-Clinton route and the Coupeville-Port Townsend route. Deception Pass bridge connects the north end of Whidbey Island with Fidalgo Island via a scenic and very popular bridge.

Poster Design: Our Collaboration with Local Artists

Each year, WIMF collaborates with a Whidbey Island visual artist to come up with a poster design that reflects the wonder and natural beauty of Whidbey Island. This year’s featured artist is Whidbey artist Michele Kempees. Past artists who have contributed work include Timothy Haslet, Buffy Morrow-Cribbs, Briony Morrow-Cribbs, Linnane Armstrong, Brian Mahieu and Gordy Edberg.
