My education, work history, and lived experience has prepared me to serve as an advocate for diverse, marginalized, and at risk communities. My training and experience includes mediating group discussions during individual and social crisis with adolescent and adult groups as well as providing one-on-one support and serving as a point of reference for available institutional resources. I hope to serve as an ally and assistant in the translation of community and individual experiences and needs to the institutions that support them in an effort to move towards more equitable and representative services.
Masters of Arts in Cultural Studies
I completed my degree in Cultural Studies at the University of Washington. My graduate work focused on interdisciplinary implementations of community engagement, facilitation skills with diverse populations, and the creation of curriculums and programs to build and strengthen communities. This program provided the space to work with a cohort of students to consider more deeply the engagement of the cultural worker and their position and methods within various demographic and local communities.
Bachelor of Arts Society, Ethics, and Human Behavior
During my undergraduate degree, I worked through questions of power and privilege within institutions and their impact on individuals and communities. Using critical examination of the perspectives and tools used to understand human behavior, social institutions, and social policies, I explored the ethical dimensions of individual and community actions utilizing critical analyses across multiple disciplines including sociology, psychology, media and cultural studies, anthropology, ethics, and political philosophy. I engaged in empirical research, peer facilitation, and project-based learning experiences around topics of race, policy, institutions, exploration of movement modalities as arts-based practices, gender and sexuality, economics, and human rights.
